Weighted grade average, arithmetic mean, median and mode — the four measures school uses to describe the “typical” value of a set of numbers. Each with its formula and a note on when to reach for it.
In an arithmetic mean every number counts the same. In a weighted mean each carries its own weight — an end-of-topic test counts for more than a short quiz. That is why your reported average is almost never the plain average of your marks.
The mean is sensitive to outliers: a single very low mark can drag a whole term down. The median — the middle value once the list is sorted — ignores the extremes, so it often describes the typical mark better.
The mode is the value that appears most often. In the set 4, 4, 5, 3 the mode is 4. If every value appears exactly once there is no mode at all, and the calculator says so explicitly.
Multiply each mark by its weight, add the results and divide by the total of the weights. For marks 5 (weight 2), 4 (weight 1) and 3 (weight 3): (10 + 4 + 9) ÷ 6 = 3.83.

When the set contains values far away from the rest. The median does not react to one extreme number, so it shows the typical value more faithfully.
For a reported grade usually yes, but the rounding rule is set by the school. The calculator shows the exact result to two decimal places.
