The calculator applies the standard order: brackets and functions first, then exponents, then multiplication and division, and finally addition and subtraction. That is why 2 + 3 · 4 comes out as 14 rather than 20.

sqrt for roots, log and ln for base-10 and natural logarithms, sin, cos and tan with their inverses, abs, round and factorial. The constants pi and e are typed by name.
Write sqrt(144) or √144 — both give 12. For higher roots use a fractional exponent, for example 1024^(1/5).
Exponentiation binds more tightly than the minus sign, so the expression reads as −(2²) = −4. To square a negative number write (−2)^2 = 4.
Radians, as on most scientific calculators. To get the sine of 30 degrees, enter sin(30 · pi / 180).
