Trigonometric functions work in radians. To use degrees, convert them first: degrees · pi / 180.

How to write expressions in a scientific calculator

  1. Put brackets wherever they matter

    The calculator follows the order of operations, so 2 + 3 · 4 gives 14. If you meant (2 + 3) · 4, the brackets have to be there.

  2. Write roots as sqrt or a fractional power

    sqrt(144) and 144^(1/2) both give 12. For higher roots use 1024^(1/5).

  3. Mind the minus in front of a power

    −2^2 reads as −(2²) = −4. If you want the square of a negative number, write (−2)^2 = 4.
