Fraction to percentage calculator
Enter a numerator and denominator and the calculator converts the fraction into a percentage. The decimal form is shown on the way, because that is the key to the conversion.
The fraction 3/5 is 60.00%.
Formula
a is the numerator and b the denominator. Divide first, then multiply by 100 — a percentage is a hundredth part of the whole.
How we got there
A fraction greater than one gives more than 100%. For instance 5/4 is 125%.
How to convert a fraction to a percentage by hand
- Divide the numerator by the denominator
3 ÷ 5 = 0.6. That is the decimal form.
- Multiply by 100
0.6 × 100 = 60%.
- Shortcut for a denominator of 100
If the denominator is 100, the numerator is already the percentage: 37/100 is 37%.
