Volume unit converter

Convert millilitres and litres, cubic centimetres and cubic metres, and gallons. The calculator shows the multiplier so the whole conversion is visible.

Answer
1000 millilitre (ml)
Factor1000

1 litre (l) is 1000 millilitre (ml).

Formula

y=x · k

x is the input value and k the multiplier. Every unit is converted into litres first.

How we got there

1 litre (l) · 1000 = 1000 millilitre (ml)

A litre is exactly 1000 cubic centimetres, and a cubic metre is 1000 litres.

How to convert volume units by hand

  1. Convert the value into litres

    The litre is the base unit here. 1 m³ = 1000 l, 1 cm³ = 0.001 l.

  2. Divide by the target unit

    To get millilitres, divide the litres by 0.001 — that is, multiply by 1000.

  3. Remember the third power

    For volume the length multiplier is cubed: a metre is 100 cm, but a cubic metre is a million cm³.
