How we got there

How to convert area units by hand
- Find the length multiplier
From metres to centimetres it is 100.
- Square the multiplier
Area has two dimensions, so 100 becomes 100² = 10,000.
- Multiply the value by it
1 m² × 10,000 = 10,000 cm².
